Things to Do Around London Stansted Airport

Because of Stansted Airport's location to the northeast of the capital, it is also an ideal place to begin exploring East Anglia, which includes the famous cathedral cities of Norwich, Ely and Cambridge. The Essex coastline is about an hour's drive away via the A120. Stansted Airport lies close to the market town of Bishop's Stortford, just over the county border in Hertfordshire. Here, you can find shops and accommodation, if required, before setting out on your onward journey.

While you're in the Stansted area, a visit to Mountfitchet Castle is fun for all ages and is only a short drive away. If you plan to visit London, hiring a car makes things lots easier and gets you into the centre in under an hour.

Driving Information in Stansted Airport

As a customer, you have a choice as to how you would like to pay for fuel.

Fuel policy at non-airport locations:

  • You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle, or if you choose not to refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price. An additional refuelling charge may apply at some locations.
  • A full tank of fuel is not guaranteed.

Fuel policy at airport car rental locations:

  • You may opt to pre-pay for fuel — pre-pay gives you two conveniences:
    • You can avoid the hassle of having to fuel up the vehicle before returning.
    • The pre-pay fuel option is calculated at the local rate of fuel minus a per gallon discount.
